Haryana Gives 5-Year Age Relaxation for First Batch of Agniveers
In a significant decision, the Haryana government has announced new rules for Agniveers.
In a major development, Haryana gives 5-year age relaxation for first batch of Agniveers, offering a significant boost to young soldiers completing their service. The Haryana government has officially announced new rules to support retired Agniveers from the state, giving them greater access to government jobs and career opportunities after their military service.
According to the notification, Chief Secretary Anurag Rastogi issued a detailed letter explaining the decision. Under the new rule, Agniveers from the first batch, who will complete their service between 2026 and 2027, will get a five-year age relaxation when applying for government jobs. For Agniveers from later batches, the relaxation will be three years. This allows them to apply for posts even if they exceed the standard age limit.
The Agniveer Scheme, launched in June 2022, recruits soldiers for four years of service. Only 25% of these recruits continue in permanent military roles, while the rest return to civilian life. Since the scheme began, over 7,000 young men from Haryana have joined the military, showing the state’s deep connection to national defense. The yearly recruitment numbers are as follows:
- 2022–23: 1,830 Agniveers
- 2023–24: 2,215 Agniveers
- 2024–25: 2,108 Agniveers
Recognizing this commitment, the Haryana government introduced several welfare measures. The state will now reserve 20% of all police jobs for Agniveers, ensuring they find secure employment after service. In addition, there will be 5% reservation in Group C posts and 1% in Group B posts, especially for roles related to their military experience and technical skills.
The government has also simplified the recruitment process. Ex-Agniveers will not need to take the Common Eligibility Test (CET) for Group C jobs. However, they must still qualify through written exams conducted by the recruitment agency. Moreover, they will be exempted from physical tests for posts like police constable, forest guard, jail warder, and mining guard.
To encourage private companies to hire ex-Agniveers, the government has announced an employment subsidy. Any company paying an Agniveer more than ₹30,000 per month will receive a ₹60,000 annual subsidy from the government. This step aims to motivate industries to offer stable jobs to former soldiers.
For those who prefer self-employment, Haryana will help Agniveers become entrepreneurs. They can receive interest assistance on loans up to ₹5 lakh, making it easier to start small businesses. This initiative not only supports Agniveers but also strengthens the state’s economy through job creation.
In a move related to security and welfare, the government has decided to issue arms licenses on a priority basis to Agniveers. This decision recognizes their training and helps them transition smoothly into civilian life while contributing to safety roles in society.
The government has also taken steps to support the families of soldiers who lose their lives during service. Families of fallen Agniveers will receive ₹1 crore as ex gratia compensation, a gesture to honor their bravery and sacrifice for the nation.
Officials have emphasized that these reforms reflect Haryana’s long-standing respect for its soldiers. The state contributes one of the highest numbers of recruits to the Indian Army each year, with many families having generations of military service. Providing benefits to Agniveers aligns with the state’s tradition of valuing discipline, patriotism, and courage.
With these measures, Haryana aims to make sure that no young soldier struggles after returning to civilian life. The combination of age relaxation, job reservations, financial aid, and entrepreneurial support shows a complete plan for rehabilitation and empowerment.
As the first batch prepares to complete service in 2026–27. And this announcement ensures a smoother path to new careers and opportunities. The state’s decision proves its dedication to helping those who serve and protect the nation. Indeed, Haryana gives 5-year age relaxation for first batch, reaffirming its role as a leading state in supporting India’s brave youth both during and after military service.
