Three Nihangs Assault Bus Driver and Passenger in Chandigarh

Midnight Attack in Chandigarh

In a shocking incident late at night, three Nihangs assault bus driver and a passenger in Chandigarh. This happened near Gaushala Chowk on the busy Sector 44-45 road around midnight on August 2-3. Nihangs are known as traditional Sikh warriors, recognizable by their distinctive turbans and swords. Their behavior can often attract public attention, making this event quite significant for the area.

The Incident

On that night, a Volvo bus was running with passengers when the three nihangs approached. They came from the wrong side of the road, even pushing a motorcycle towards the bus. This forced the bus to stop. Eyewitness Lakshay Thapar, a 33-year-old Rapido bike driver from Panchkula, was passing by after dropping off a passenger.

When the bus halted, the nihangs began yelling at the driver. They didn’t stop there; they hit him with sticks. One brave passenger, Pardeep Kumar, 55, from Anaj Mandi in Kurali, got off the bus to help. But he was attacked too, receiving blows to his head and hand. Lakshay saw everything unfold.

Filming the Attack

Seeing the violence, Lakshay decided to record the incident on his mobile phone. But that was a mistake. One of the attackers threatened him with a sword. They snatched the phone right out of his hands. Lakshay also got beaten with sticks when he tried to intervene. Fearing for his life, he quickly left the area.

The Aftermath

Meanwhile, the injured Pardeep was quickly taken to a hospital by a police response team. Lakshay returned the next morning to tell the police what happened. He filed a formal complaint at the Sector 49 police station.

Police Response

The police registered a case against the attackers under several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). These include various sections that deal with serious offenses. They are currently investigating the incident, attempting to identify the nihangs using the motorcycle they left behind. They are also reviewing surveillance footage from nearby CCTV cameras.

Context of Violence in Chandigarh

This incident is troubling, especially considering Chandigarh’s reputation. The city is known for its modern planning and cleanliness. According to recent surveys, it ranked as one of the cleanest cities in India, even taking the top spot in 2020. Although there are isolated incidents of violence like this one, Chandigarh’s crime rate stands at about 380.5 per 100,000 people. This rate is lower than the national average, which means that overall, people are relatively safe in this urban area.

The Cultural Significance of Nihangs

Nihangs have deep cultural roots in Punjab. They are respected as warriors and defenders of Sikh values. Their presence is common during religious events and fairs. However, when incidents of violence involve them, it raises concerns in the community. It can lead to discussions on law and order and the impact of cultural symbols in today’s society.

What Lies Ahead

However, the Chandigarh police are committed to resolving the Three Nihangs Assault Bus Driver case quickly. They want to ensure the safety of all citizens. Detectives are focused on using the evidence they’ve collected, including the motorcycle and CCTV footage. The community is watching closely to see how the police handle this situation.

Such events are reminders that, while Chandigarh is a beautiful and well-planned city, challenges still exist. People hope that incidents like this will become rare and that the spirit of cooperation and safety will prevail. The community’s response will be essential in shaping future interactions between citizens and law enforcement.

Hotel Guest Arrested for Filming Woman Without Permission

Recently, police in Zirakpur registered a case after a Hotel Guest arrested for filming woman without her consent. The victim, a hotel’s social media manager, was recording promotional content when an intoxicated guest began filming her. Staff intervened quickly, but the guest refused to stop, threatened the employees, and claimed police connections.

The situation escalated into a scuffle with hotel security. According to the hotel owner, this guest and his group had previously misbehaved with staff, especially female employees. Concern grew stronger because such behavior is becoming more frequent in urban centers.

The police acted promptly and booked the guest under multiple sections of law, including Section 115(2) for conspiracy, Section 296 for obscene conduct, Section 78(2) for disruption, and Section 66E of the IT Act for violating privacy. This legal response was seen as necessary to ensure public confidence in law enforcement.

Punjab has already been struggling with rising cyber crimes. Authorities emphasize that digital growth, particularly in Mohali, increases risks of privacy violations. Therefore, strict measures are being implemented alongside awareness programs.

Meanwhile, another case involving misuse of the ICACCOPS software was reported in Mohali. This tool, designed to detect child exploitation material online, was allegedly misused. The cyber crime police filed a complaint after Inspector Rohit Heera flagged the issue, stressing the urgency of digital safety.

Officials admit that more work is needed to protect women and children. Although the state is taking stronger steps, rapid technological expansion poses ongoing challenges. Citizens must also stay aware and informed.

Community involvement remains essential. Parents, teachers, and guardians must guide young people about safe online practices. The emphasis on awareness highlights how collective action can prevent exploitation.

These incidents underline the importance of safety, accountability, and respect. Punjab’s growing digital activity makes privacy protection even more critical. Ultimately, the case of a Hotel Guest Arrested for Filming Woman sends a strong message that violations will not be tolerated and that strict enforcement, combined with education, is the way forward.
