Arshdeep Singh Eager for Opportunity in England

Arshdeep Singh eager for opportunity in England, but the promising Indian pacer recently faced frustration. Although selected for the Test series, he spent the entire tour on the bench. His coach, Gagandeep Singh, revealed that Arshdeep had been waiting for his moment, especially after impressing with Kent in county cricket. Despite his anticipation, the chance never arrived, leaving him disappointed.

Nevertheless, Arshdeep’s track record shows why expectations around him are so high. In 21 first-class matches in India, he has collected 66 wickets with an average of 30.37. Two five-wicket hauls highlight his ability to trouble batters. This strong domestic record underlines his readiness for bigger opportunities.

Coach Gagandeep shed light on the situation, noting that perhaps the management lacked complete confidence in Arshdeep. He shared that during their conversations, the youngster admitted to growing impatient. Yet, Gagandeep advised patience, while also insisting that England’s conditions were perfect for a swing bowler like him.

Moreover, the coach offered practical advice for further development. He stressed the importance of mastering swing and accuracy while also adding variety to his bowling. Focus on yorkers, sharp bouncers, and disciplined line and length could make Arshdeep more lethal at the international stage.

Although this Test chance slipped by, new opportunities are ahead. The Asia Cup 2025 is around the corner, and India will begin their campaign against UAE on September 10. For Arshdeep, this tournament could serve as a platform to turn frustration into success.

Importantly, his T20 record already speaks volumes. With 99 wickets in just 63 innings at an average of 18.30, he is India’s leading wicket-taker in the format. His best performance of 4/9 remains a standout example of his match-winning ability.

Alongside stalwarts like Jasprit Bumrah and rising names like Harshit Rana, he will form a formidable fast-bowling unit. Supported by Hardik Pandya’s all-round skills, India’s pace attack looks balanced and threatening.

Back home, Punjab continues to nurture cricketing talent with pride, and Arshdeep stands as a shining product of that culture. Fans and mentors alike believe he is only steps away from cementing his place in the national side.

Ultimately, Arshdeep Singh eager for opportunity remains the theme of his journey. With patience, skill, and determination, he is expected to grab his moment soon and deliver the performances that both coaches and supporters are waiting for.

Angad Cheema Shines Again, Wins PGTI Title in Ahmedabad

Angad Cheema’s Recent Success

Angad Cheema Shines Again as the talented golfer from Panchkula has once again proven his skills. He recently won the prestigious PGTI title in Ahmedabad. This victory marks his fourth professional win and third PGTI main tour title.

Just months before this win, Cheema took home the title at the Kapil Dev Grant Thornton Invitational 2025 in Bengaluru. This event had a prize pool of Rs 2 crore and helped him gain major recognition.

Victory in Ahmedabad

On Friday, Cheema showed great skill at the Coal India Open held at the Kensville Golf & Country Club. He completed the final round with a score of two-under-70. His total score was an impressive 13-under-275. This score allowed him to win by four shots against Noida golfer Amardeep Malik.

Cheema expressed his happiness, saying, “Winning back-to-back PGTI titles is a special feeling. It gives me a lot of confidence for this year. I was all about winning and believing in myself this whole week and I am glad that I could win the title here.”

Challenges on the Course

The weather was not easy during the tournament. It rained a lot, which made the fairways slow. Cheema had to adjust his game to handle the wet conditions, but his hard work paid off.

His Early Days in Golf

Angad Cheema, who is now 35 years old, started playing golf at just 13. His father, Brigadier A.S. Cheema, encouraged him to take up the sport. He practiced at the Army Golf Course in Wellington, where his father was serving at that time.

A Champion’s Journey

Cheema’s journey in golf has been impressive. In 2012, he became the All India Amateur Champion. He won this title at the 111th edition of the All India Amateur Golf Championship held at the Chandigarh Golf Club.

In 2011, he was part of the Indian team that won a bronze medal in the Nomura Cup in Fiji. This victory marked India’s return to the podium after an 18-year gap. That same year, he helped India win the SAARC Golf Championship in Jaipur.

PGTI Titles and Milestones

Cheema’s first PGTI win came from the Dialog Enterprise Invitational. He also won the Jaipur PGTI Feeder Tour event in the same year. Remarkably, last year was a turning point for him as he claimed a PGTI title after a long gap of 11 years by winning the Vizag Open.

This year, he achieved his biggest career win by earning Rs 30 lakh at the Kapil Dev Grant Thornton Invitational. He finished that event with an impressive score of 20-under-196 after three rounds.

Reflecting on this journey, Cheema stated, “Winning the title at Vizag last year gave me a lot of boost in terms of motivation as well as the winning edge on the professional circuit.”

Training and Preparation

Cheema credits part of his success to his coach, Jesse Grewal, and trainer, Lavish Chaudhary. He focused on both his technique and physical fitness. Cheema felt that his preparations were key to his winning performances in recent events.

He noted, “The Kapil Dev Grant Thornton Invitational was played under a new format with three rounds. It included 60 men, 12 women, and amateur golfers. This win was special in my career too as it came in a new format.”

Future Plans and Aspirations

After his big win in April, Cheema also participated in the Final British Open Qualifiers at West Lancashire. He finished tied for 43rd place, gaining valuable experience. As of now, Cheema does not hold an Asian Tour or DP World Tour card.

However, winning the PGTI title this year puts him in a good position. He hopes to play in the DP World Tour’s inaugural India Championship in Delhi this October. This event will include big names like five-time major winner Rory McIlroy.

Cheema shared, “Playing in the British Open Final Qualifiers helped me a lot in terms of understanding the different conditions.” He looks forward to participating in upcoming PGTI events, including the Trident Open in Chandigarh this November.

He plans to evaluate his possibilities for the Asian Tour or European Tour qualifiers at the end of the year based on his performance. Cheema concluded, “I hope I will be able to play in the DP World Tour’s inaugural India Championship in October too based on my PGTI Order of Merit points.”
