The NRI Father-Son Duo Investigated for Rs 3.15 Cr Fraud has stirred major concern in Mohali district, Punjab. The accused, Avtar Singh and his son Jaswant Singh, both directors of ATL Biofuel India Pvt Ltd, allegedly cheated investors by promising huge profits and top company positions.

One of the victims, Parmjeet Singh, said the duo persuaded him to invest his retirement savings. “Avtar and Jaswant told me I would become a director and earn high returns,” he said. Parmjeet invested Rs 2.95 crore, while another investor, Jaspreet Singh, added Rs 20 lakh, making the total investment Rs 3.15 crore.

The investors believed their money would buy land in Goh village, Ludhiana, for a biofuel project. Ludhiana, a key industrial hub, often attracts investors because of its strong economy. However, the project never began. Instead, Avtar, Jaswant, and a chartered accountant named Parminder convinced investors to shift their plan to Uttar Pradesh, saying it would qualify for better government subsidies.

They promised to start building a Compressed Bio Gas (CBG) plant by July 2024, but no construction ever took place. The investors never got their money back. Investigators later found that the accused forged Parmjeet’s signature on several company papers. They also uploaded fake records on the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA) website to make it appear that the board had approved ownership changes.

Parmjeet expressed deep disappointment. “They cheated us and forged my signature to seize control of the company and misuse our money,” he said. Police quickly began their investigation since forgery and breach of trust are serious criminal offenses under Indian law.

After a detailed inquiry, Balongi police filed a case against Avtar, Jaswant, and Parminder. The charges include cheating, criminal conspiracy, breach of trust, and forgery. Officers confirmed that Parminder and another man were arrested, while Avtar and Jaswant Singh are abroad. Police have issued lookout notices and are coordinating with international agencies to bring them back.
